BYD’s first pickup truck, the Shark, went online in Mexico today. The new vehicle is built on BYD’s DMO Super Hybrid Off-Road platform for hardcore off-roading, which is known as Dual Mode Off-Road, and is a Ladder Frame with beams, which means a non-load-bearing body, so its off-road capability is undoubted. The vehicle is positioned as a mid-size pickup truck with a body size of 5,457 mm X 1,971 mm X 1,925 mm and a wheelbase of 3,260 mm, the largest in its class, and its rivals are the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger and Mitsubishi Triton, which are all hot-selling vehicles in the same class.
First of all, in the appearance of the part, you can see that it has a big BYD logo in the middle of the tank shroud, coupled with the C-shaped headlamps, basically it will let you know who it is as soon as it comes out, and the car’s lines will be more rigid and square, with the design of the slightly wide-bodied wheel arches, it looks as if there are a bunch of tough guy style, coupled with the body of the lower edge of the silver plate and black plastic anti-scratch material, which will avoid the possibility of scratching the paintwork when off-road, and the rear can be seen on the through tail lights which are rare on pickup trucks, and there is also a BYD logo to indicate its identity. The lower edge of the body has silver guards and black plastic anti-scratch material, which can prevent you from scratching the paintwork when off-roading, and at the rear you can see the penetrating taillamps, which are rare on pickup trucks, as well as the BYD Logo to indicate the identity of the vehicle.
Coming to the interior part, this car adopts the same very tough interior layout as the Equation Leopard 5, you can see that there are 10.25-inch full LCD gauges, 12.8-inch center touch screen main unit and 12-inch W-HUD head-up display, which not only supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto cell phone connectivity, but also has BYD’s family heritage of rotary design, and it can also support Hi BYD voice control, as well as Sing K function and 50W wireless charging function. In addition, it can also support Hi BYD’s voice control, as well as the function of singing K and 50W cell phone wireless charging function, etc. And it also has a 540° panoramic image with chassis perspective, to ensure that you can see clearly whether there are any obstacles under the car when you are off-road, and there are also a lot of storage space in the car, to give you a wealth of storage functions.
As for the power part, this vehicle will be equipped with a 1.5L Turbo engine + PHEV plug-in hybrid system DMO dual-mode off-road, according to the data published on the official website, its maximum horsepower is more than 430 PS, so that this pickup can be accelerated from 0 – 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, and the official fuel consumption is only 7.5 L/100 km, and its battery pack is BYD Blade battery. The battery pack uses BYD’s blade battery, which is said to have a pure electric range of up to 100 km, and a maximum range of up to 840 km on a full tank of fuel (NEDC test standard). It uses Cell To Chassis (CTC) battery chassis integration technology, which improves the rigidity of the vehicle’s frame by building the battery into the chassis, and the vehicle has three off-road modes: sand, mud and snow. In addition, the vehicle has three off-road modes – sand, mud and snow – and a virtual differential lock that distributes torque between the front and rear wheels, allowing the vehicle to achieve even better off-road capabilities. Moreover, its rear bucket has 1,450L of cargo space, with a maximum load capacity of up to 835 kg, and a maximum towing capacity of 2,500 kg, so that whether you want to carry cargo or want to tow a caravan on the road will not be a problem.
Finally, although the car is now online on the Mexican website and many details have been announced, the official launch of the new car is scheduled for May 14th at 10.30am Mexico time (May 15th at 12.30pm Malaysian time), and it is believed that the original factory will announce the price of the new car by then. Although there’s no word yet on whether the car will be released locally, there is a possibility that it will make its way to the local market in the future, given that it has a right-hand drive model.
